Mycroft Cognitive Mediator: Enhancing Team Science: An ISSIP Discovery Summit/OHSL Workshop at IBM Research – Almaden Dec 15-16
Co-hosted by IBM, and Open Heath Systems Laboratory, in collaboration with National Cancer Institute, and the ISSIP Cognitive Institute Community of Interest, this Discovery Summit brought together key individuals on Dec 15-16, 2015, at IBM Almaden Research, to share perspectives, and explore opportunities for collaboration at the intersection of Cognitive Computing, Science of Team Science, and Service Science.
Experts from industry, academic research, and government foundations came together to share perspectives, and to identify and/or create opportunities for those who would like to build cognitive assistants to help scientists (team scientists) accelerate discoveries and applications. The Discovery Summit, will benefit from insights and platform opportunities from IBM Cloud Bluemix, Watson Developer Cloud, IBM Cognitive Institute, IBM Research upcoming innovations, Research from NIH, and latest research from various universities (including Stanford, UC Berkeley, Syracuse, Northwestern, San Jose State University, Michigan State University, and more).
This two-day meeting aimed to give participants a time to share their work, learn about cutting edge research, and collectively consider opportunities to work together to develop projects that aim to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of collaborative science. Participants identified a number of areas that cognitive assistants can significantly help scientists (team scientists) accelerate discoveries and applications, and map out next steps towards growing a multi-disciplinary community of practice (possibly as an ISSIP Special Interest Group) beyond this initial meeting.
