PSU/ISSIP Industry Transformation Discovery Series Launch: Engineering the 21st Century Service Economy

In collaboration with Penn State University College of Engineering, ISSIP is pleased to launch a new series of panel discussions to explore the transformation underway across industry sectors as we engineer our 21st century service economy. In six one-hour virtual events throughout 2024, our panel of experts from industry, government, NGO and academia will explore trends, tools, challenges and how to define excellence and measure progress in the newly emerging services economy.

Think of existing and novel measures of advancement and exponential change, like Moore’s Law for computing, but across diverse industry sectors. The intersection of service innovation (ISSIP) and service system engineering (PSU) combines the notions of service innovation (e.g., defined as advances integrating (a) technologies that amplify capabilities, (b) business models that scale up benefits rapidly, and (c) institutional arrangements that scale down potential harms to underserved populations, the planet, and future generations) with service systems (e.g., defined as dynamic configurations of people, technology, organizations, and information interconnected by value propositions). In conclusion, as industry sector transformations accelerate,  industrial and systems engineering departments and as well as all academic disciplines should prepare a next generation of T-shaped adaptive innovators, with depth of problem-solving skills and breadth of communication skills.

Register and join us for the first in a series of ISSIP events on the transformation of industry sectors in the AI Era. All who register will receive a link to the recording, even if you cannot attend the online session live).
